'Blue Batik Leaves’ by Isabelle Hayman. Ink on khadi Paper float mounted in a contemporary frame. The blue leaves drawing is inspired by one of the Javanese batik from Ann Dunham, Barack Obama's mother. During the 60's and 70's Ann Dunham while staying in Indonesia as an anthropologist developed an interest for batik and its makers.

Isabelle Hayman is a French artist based in South London. She trained as a textile designer in Paris, and completed a Master of Fine Arts from Paris I. She has extensive experience in textiles and spent time living in Java. Childhood connections to Africa and a love of travel deeply inform her work as well as her background in textiles and an avid curiosity for the decorative arts. Her practice spans from a series of detailed ink drawings still life to a more rhythmic, fluid expression focusing on female portraits. She has exhibited in Paul Smith's boutiques, and one of her paintings was selected for the RA Summer Exhibition 2021.
